Mr. Payne joined Ponder & Co. in 1981, became a principal in 1984 and currently serves as a managing director. Serving as financial advisor for more than 400 financings totaling $25+ billion to date, Mr. Payne has been instrumental in the development of several financing vehicles that have become industry standards.
Mr. Payne has spoken at seminars sponsored by the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Aspen Seminars, the Strategic Research Institute and the American Bar Association. His articles have been published in Trustee and Healthcare Financial Management magazines and he wrote the chapter “Hospital Debt Management” for the book Hospital Capital Formation: Strategies and Tactics for the 1990s, from American Hospital Publishing, Inc. Mr. Payne was the primary author of the book Strategic Capital Planning for Healthcare Organizations, published by Probus Publishing (now McGraw-Hill) and wrote the chapter entitled Healthcare Project Financing in the book Construction Management of Healthcare Projects, published by McGraw Hill.
Mr. Payne holds an M.B.A. with emphasis in finance and marketing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a B.S. in business from Michigan State University in East Lansing. Additionally, he is an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and serves on the boards of directors of Absio Corporation, a data security company and DownsideUp, a nonprofit organization.
