Mr. Atchison has over 40 years of experience as a financial advisor and investment banker to the not-for-profit healthcare industry. Since 1985, he has specialized in providing merger and acquisition advisory services to a diverse group of healthcare companies. He has managed more than 150 M&A assignments, including 95 completed buy-side, sell-side and merger transactions.
Mr. Atchison first worked for Ponder & Co. from 1978 to 1981, returning to Ponder in 1999. From 1981 to 1999, he worked as an investment banker for John Nuveen & Co. and Lehman Brothers. Upon returning to Ponder & Co. in 1999, he served as the CEO and Chairman of Ponder & Co. until 2017 when he relinquished his role as CEO. He remained Chairman until 2018, when he retired from full-time duties at the firm. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Ponder & Co.
Mr. Atchison holds a J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law and a B.A. from Illinois State University. Additionally, he has held a position on the Board of Trustees of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare (EMH) since 1988. As chairman of EMH, he led the merger of EMH and Edward Health System to form the $1B Edward-Elmhurst Health System where he currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
